Pre-Modern State and Empires (GSAS Workshop, 2019–20)

A comparative approach is crucial to understanding the development, maintenance, complexities, and effects of empire in the premodern world. Thus, this workshop aims to foster dialogue on the topic of empire and statehood between departments such as Classics, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, History, Archaeology, and Anthropology. We invite speakers to present papers in all stages of completion that intersect with the workshop goals.
