Classical Receptions Workshop
The goal of this workshop is to provide an informal space for graduate students and interested faculty to read, share, explore, and discuss various approaches to the study of classical reception—understood in its broadest sense as the return, re-composition, or re-presentation of ideas and expressions originating in ancient Greece, Rome, and other regions of the Mediterranean in any subsequent context. As part of this inquiry, we aim to examine the methodological, social, and ideological implications of reception—across Classics, the wider field of literary studies, area studies, as well as various material and mediated contexts. We especially welcome participants and presenters who work in fields beyond those traditionally associated with classical studies.
If you would like to lead a discussion or present your research for an upcoming semester, please get in touch with any of the organizers.
