In a series of Jackson Lectures entitled "'...than the Chariots of the Lydians': Archaic Lydia and the Greeks," Professor Rosalind Thomas will reexamine the Greeks' relation with Lydia in the archaic period in the light of important recent archaeological discoveries. Lectures will include discussion of Gyges, the Greek cities of Asia Minor, Lydian tradition and Xanthos of Lydia, the impact of Lydia on the Greeks and on Greek traditions, and Greek fable in contrast to Near Eastern evidence.
Lectures are open to the public, and will be held on the following dates:
- Tuesday, March 21, 5:30–7:00 p.m.
- Thursday, March 23, 5:30–7:00 p.m.
- Monday, March 27, 5:30–7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 29, 5:30–7:00 p.m.
