When do graduate students teach?

Graduate students gain pedagogical skills and instructional experience by serving as Teaching Fellows starting in year three of the program, under close faculty supervision. Graduate students in years one and two do not teach. Appointments as a Teaching Fellow may consist of either assisting faculty in language or lecture courses (in Classics, General Education, or other departments), conducting an undergraduate tutorial under the supervision of the Director of Undergraduate Studies, or teaching an undergraduate language course under the guidance of a preceptor.
