When do graduate students teach?

Graduate students gain pedagogical skills and instructional experience under close faculty supervision by serving as Teaching Fellows starting in year three of the program. Graduate students in years one and two do not teach. Appointments as a Teaching Fellow may consist of teaching an undergraduate language course under the guidance of a preceptor, teaching a section in faculty-led language or lecture courses (in Classics, other departments, or the Program in General Education), or conducting an undergraduate tutorial under the supervision of the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
