The paper delivered by Kathleen Coleman at a panel on “The Future of Classical Education” at the annual meeting of the Society for Classical Studies in San Francisco in January has been posted on the SCS website. It deals—briefly—with (1) scholarship on indirect contact between the Greco-Roman world and East Asia, (2) the comparative study of the ancient Greco-Roman world and ancient China, and (3) the accelerating interest in Greco-Roman studies among students and scholars in China, Korea, and Japan, with an emphasis on exchange with institutions in the West and the linguistic challenges involved in easterners learning Greek and Latin and westerners learning Chinese.
