Welcome to the home page of the Department of the Classics at Harvard University! The Department offers graduate and undergraduate education in Classics, in Greek and Latin language, literature and culture, Medieval Latin, and Byzantine and Modern Greek. Several members of the faculty have joint appointments with other departments, including Comparative Literature, History, History of Art and Architecture, Linguistics, and Philosophy.
The Department is located in Harvard Yard, in Boylston Hall, next to Widener Library, which contains the largest open-stack collection in the world. The Smyth Classical Library within Widener also has a separate collection of some 9000 volumes, and the Sackler Museum contains an excellent collection of antiquities.
